About

Katie Huber portrait

I grew up in the suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts. I loved my elementary school years and have always been drawn to teaching younger children. I started with preschool, did a short stint in middle school, and then settled into elementary school.

At first, I studied to be a general education teacher. However, after graduating with an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education, I went for my Masters in Special Education and never looked back. For over 10 years, I’ve worked in elementary moderate and severe special education classes.

In my personal life, I am the wife of a high school special education teacher and we have a 4-year-old son. I enjoy reading, crocheting, mindless television, and spending time with my family.

The intention behind Sleepy Owl Teaching is to provide teachers with teaching materials that can be used to help master state standards and IEP goals. The intent is to provide engaging, appropriate, and user-friendly materials that make learning fun. I want to be able to share the knowledge gained with my elementary, moderate, and severe experiences with you. Many products are geared towards non-verbal and non-writing students to provide ways to approach learning in a hands-on, engaging way.
